We’ve always known there was something special about our community and now, the nation knows it too.

Jefferson, Iowa has officially been named a 2025 Great American Main Street Award (GAMSA) Winner, a national recognition that honors the very best downtowns in the country. This prestigious award, presented by Main Street America, celebrates communities that have excelled in revitalization, community engagement, and creating vibrant, inclusive places to live, work, and visit, and Jefferson proudly earned a spot among them.

Why it Matters

This award isn’t just about buildings or businesses, rather it’s about people.

It’s about the many volunteers who’ve painted, planted, planned, and poured their hearts into making downtown Jefferson shine. It’s about the passionate leaders, supportive residents, and creative entrepreneurs who believe in the power of local. Together, they’ve built something truly extraordinary, a downtown that’s not only thriving, but now nationally recognized as one of the very best.

This recognition reflects years of hard work and momentum, from major revitalization projects and small business growth, to community events that bring people together. Through it all, Jefferson Matters has led with vision, collaboration, and heart.

**What’s Next?**

We’re not slowing down. In fact, we’re just getting **started**.
To celebrate, we’re inviting everyone to join us for a **community celebration** on **May 9 from 5–8 PM** on the downtown square, filled with fun, pride, and plenty of reasons to smile.
There will also be a **public press conference on Monday, April 14** at 10 in the morning on the south side of the Greene County Courthouse to formally recognize this milestone with our community.
