The Gallup House is the birthplace and boyhood home of George Gallup, founder of the eponymous Poll. Gallup is considered one of the most influential people of the 20th century and may be Jefferson's most famous son. The house is also significant for its octagonal form, a style that was popular in the latter half of the 19th century when it was thought to have better structural integrity, be a more efficient use of space, and be a better protector from elements than traditional rectangular houses.
