Meet who Matters:
Roger Aegerter
Some volunteers quietly shape a community over time, not for recognition, but simply because they care. For the past 13 years, Roger Aegerter has been one of those people in Jefferson.
Through his involvement with Jefferson Matters, and especially the Tower View Team, Roger has helped bring creativity, color, and life to spaces that might otherwise go unnoticed. His work can be seen all across downtown, from murals to helping with the Ring Out for Art sculptures to rooftop art installations that add an unexpected layer of discovery to Jefferson.
As Tower View Team Chair Deb McGinn shared, “Roger is an extraordinary volunteer whose dedication has played a major role in the success of the Tower View Team.” That dedication shows up year after year, especially through his leadership in installing the Ring Out for Art sculptures, where he ensures each piece is safely and beautifully displayed for the community to enjoy. He has also spent countless hours painting and installing rooftop art, helping transform overlooked spaces into vibrant works of creativity.
Roger’s impact goes beyond maintaining projects, he helps bring them to life. “Roger coordinated the team’s first alley mural alongside fellow members and later completed a second mural on his own,” Deb shared. “This spring, he is set to begin work on a third mural on the back of New Hope with Dana Harrison, continuing his commitment to enhancing public spaces through art.” His artistic touch is also visible in the Lincoln Highway mural in front of the Welcome Center, a piece that now serves as a welcoming and meaningful landmark for both residents and visitors.
In addition to his hands-on work, Roger has played a key role in building experiences that bring people together. He has been instrumental in organizing the annual Ekphrasis event, which continues to grow in popularity as it approaches its sixth year, creating a space where art, storytelling, and community connect.
No matter the project, Roger is someone the team can count on. “Whenever an extra hand is needed, Roger is always just a phone call away,” Deb said. “Volunteers like Roger are the heart of the Tower View Team and the reason it continues to thrive.”
His support for Jefferson doesn’t stop there. Roger is also a familiar face at community events, a supporter of Java and Juice, and an Ambassador for ribbon cuttings, helping welcome new businesses to downtown. As Deb put it, “Roger is a big supporter of Java and Juice and also is an Ambassador for ribbon cuttings for new businesses downtown welcoming them to Jefferson. He truly is an all ‘round Jefferson supporter!”
Roger’s contributions are woven into the everyday experience of Jefferson, in the art people admire, the events they attend, and the welcoming spirit that defines the community. His willingness to step in, lend a hand, and bring ideas to life is what makes a lasting difference!
