Voices of Jefferson Matters: Board Members
Jefferson Matters is driven by people who care deeply about this community. Behind every event, project, and promotion are volunteers who believe in Jefferson and choose to invest their time, energy, and resources to help it thrive.
As part of our contribution drive, we’re sharing reflections from our board members. These are the people who help guide our work, support local businesses, and show up year after year because they believe Jefferson matters.
"Back in 2013, when this photo was taken, I was part of a group that truly believed Jefferson mattered. Over the years, my involvement has looked different. Some years very hands-on, some years more behind the scenes. But every year, I’ve continued to donate because I believe in the constant work of this organization and the role it plays in keeping Jefferson moving in the right direction.
If you’ve ever felt that same sense of pride and possibility, I hope you’ll consider donating. Every dollar, no matter the size, helps make an impact."
- Amy Milligan, Jefferson Matters President
“I joined the JM board in late 2023 after having been on Economic Vitality for several years. I often joke that Peg Raney is my “community involvement hero” and she was responsible for me joining both!
I’ve developed a strong sense of servant leadership over the years, which drives me to support our community wherever I can. Jefferson offers so many ways to give back, and that’s what makes it special.
For me, Tower View Team, EV, and Organization are where I found my niche and feel I can contribute the most.
Watching Jefferson evolve over the years has been incredible. We moved to town in 2012, but I’ve lived in Greene County most of my life. One of my favorite parts of living here is taking round-trip walks from home to the square; seeing the refreshed building facades, the Bell Tower (of course!), the seasonally updated pillar planters, beautiful murals, and hearing the music—it makes every walk feel like a celebration of community.
I’m so proud of what Jefferson has created for its citizens and visitors. The warm welcomes wherever you visit in town, the abundance of public art, so many events, and the sense of community is why we’re a Great American Main Street!”
- Kristin Russell, Vice President
"I’ve been proud to serve as a Jefferson Matters Board member for the past 13 years. Leading the Tower View Team has given me the chance to collaborate with passionate people and bring art to unexpected places—from our three renovated alleyways to every corner of our vibrant downtown. If you’re looking for an organization that’s fun, creative, and making things happen, join us! Volunteer with Jefferson Matters Main Street and consider donating so we can keep bringing bold, exciting public art to Jefferson."
- Deb McGinn, Tower View Team Chair and Jefferson Matters Secretary
"I’ve truly enjoyed serving on our promotions team, and I’m excited, prepared, and ready to lead it once again. This team is dedicated to promoting shopping and dining in Jefferson—because keeping money here keeps your dollars working for our community.
When you “Look Local First,” you help create and retain jobs, increase local tax revenue, and strengthen our town. I personally support Jefferson Matters because I believe in how they share Jefferson’s story and bring our community together.
If you want to stay in the loop on fun events, weekly activities, and meaningful, memory-making moments, I encourage you to join the email list and consider giving back—whether through your time, talents, or a donation. Experiencing Jefferson truly is a joy when you show up, follow along, and get involved."
- Bonnie Silbaugh, Promotions Chair
"I chose to serve on the Jefferson Matters board because I believe community events play a vital role in keeping Jefferson vibrant. I primarily help with planning and supporting events that bring people together, showcase our town, and support local businesses. It’s fulfilling to be part of an organization that makes such a visible difference."
- Emily Dyer, Board Member
"It’s not a secret how proud I am of what Jefferson Matters has done to make a huge difference in our community. After serving as director, I continue as a volunteer and financial supporter to continue the progress. Our Economic Vitality Team offers grants to new businesses for start up costs and grants for existing businesses for adding a needed product or service. The After Hours: Insider events have been so popular.
Java & Juice and ribbon cuttings with the Ambassadors are all coordinated through Jefferson Matters. A new website and increased social media outreach has been very impressive. Of course, we love the many events such as BRAG (Bike Ride Around Greene) and the Bell Tower Festival. Our square is vibrant with art and activities, all initiated through Jefferson Matters. Bill is part of a dozen volunteers who water the flowers in our downtown. Please join us in making a contribution to the annual fundraising campaign to Jefferson Matters to keep the organization moving forward with the impactful projects."
- Peg Raney, Chair of the Economic Vitality team
