How to Spend a Day in Jefferson

If you’re looking for a day trip that’s full of charm small-town atmosphere and experiences, Jefferson might be your new favorite spot. Whether you're into small-town vibes, good food, or just a solid stroll with an iced coffee in hand, this little itinerary has you covered!

Imagination Alley

9:00 AM – Start with caffeine and a little wandering

Start your day with coffee. If you're coming into town from Highway 30, hit up CHiRP Coffee for a drive-thru latte or cold brew. Already downtown? Swing by Greene Bean Coffee on the square.

Take your drink and walk the square. The downtown is filled with one-of-a-kind shops, public art, and charming architecture. It's the perfect mix of slow-paced and interesting. You never know what you’ll find — antiques, handmade gifts, home décor, or something totally unexpected. It's the perfect way to ease into a laid-back afternoon while soaking up Jefferson’s authentic streetscape.

10:30 AM – Step back in time at RVP~1875

After a little retail therapy and exploring the alleyways, consider booking a tour at RVP~1875 — the world’s leading historical furniture shop and museum. Located in the century-old Milligan Lumber Grain & Coal building, this 19th-century-style woodworking shop is run by Master Furniture Maker Robby Pedersen, who has over 28 years of experience and has crafted more than 1,300 pieces using only the tools, techniques, and finishes used in 1875 Iowa.

The tour is hands-on, fascinating, and full of stories you won’t hear anywhere else. It typically lasts about 90 minutes and is well worth the time.

12:30 PM – Time to eat

Ready for lunch? Whether you're into comfort food, pizza, or Chinese takeout, there are plenty of great spots to grab a bite. From sit-down restaurants to casual diners and cafés, Jefferson has something for every craving.

2:00 PM – Your choice of chill or play

Whether you’re up for some family-friendly fun or just want to take it slow, it’s time to pick your adventure.

5:30 PM – Wrap it up with dinner and a movie

End your day with dinner at one of the local favorites, then catch a movie at the Sierra Community Theatre. It’s simple, cozy, and a perfect small-town nightcap.

Not Ready to Call It a Night?

Still looking for a fun way to wrap up the night? Grab a drink at The Courtyard, Doc’s Stadium, or Lucky’s Sports Bar at the Wild Rose Casino and toast to a day well spent in Jefferson.
